High-resolution digital images taken and read on site, in seconds, to find fractures, swallowed objects, bloat and problems in the chest.
Open 24/7 · No Appointment Needed
X-rays are the fastest way to answer a hard question: is the bone broken, did they swallow the toy, is the stomach twisted, is there fluid in the chest, is the bladder full of stones. If your pet was hit by a car, fell, is limping badly, is retching without producing anything, or ate something they should not have, we will almost certainly take images.
A radiograph is a picture of density: bone, metal, gas and fluid all look different. Digital means the image appears on screen seconds after it is taken, so the doctor can adjust the angle immediately instead of bringing your pet back for a second visit. Nothing is mailed out and nothing is developed in a darkroom.
A technician holds or positions your pet on the table. Most patients need no sedation for a quick series.
The exposure lasts a fraction of a second and the image is on screen almost immediately.
The emergency doctor reads the images here. Complex cases can be sent to a radiologist for a second read.
We bring the images up on the screen and point out exactly what we are looking at.
These are the situations where images come first.
Hit by a car, a fall from height, or a hard collision
Limping badly, not bearing weight, or a limb at a strange angle
Swallowed a toy, a bone, a sock, a rock or a fishhook
Retching with a hard, swollen belly, which can mean bloat
Coughing, or breathing that looks like hard work
Straining to urinate, which can mean bladder stones
A wound where something may still be inside
Any trauma where your pet seems fine but you are not sure
Your pet goes to the imaging room with a technician, usually for a few minutes. Two or three views are taken from different angles, because a single image can hide a fracture. Most patients need no sedation, though a very painful or frightened pet may get a light sedative so the images are usable and the experience is not traumatic. The doctor reads the images here and brings them up on a screen to show you.
Digital plates mean no waiting and no second visit for a retake.
The imaging room is staffed every hour the hospital is open, which is all of them.
The doctor treating your pet reads the images and shows them to you.
Real photos of the X-ray suite, the equipment and a study on screen.
You see the price of the images before we take them, and nothing is run without your go-ahead.
You get a written estimate before treatment begins, and our team goes through it with you line by line.
